Marie's crazy.............

Marie is a member of the Crazy Club - she is an avid collector of, well, anything really. She has kindly allowed me to post her "first" crazy she did with me a few years ago.
Marie told me that she did not "do" ribbon work - well, I don't know what you call this then!!!

Her collection of fabrics, buttons, beads, lace and trims is stounding.......

I do love Marie's work - her stitches are "expansive" and free............

...............her fabrics are luscious and rich....................Marie uses any and everything to embellish her crazy - here she has used an old shoe buckle..........

................very effective button hole wheels........

............ a close up of her work.....................

As I said before - oh my hat ! - her button collection.............

Wheatear stitch with pearls and colonial knots..........

.......... a vintage bow and buckle ..................

more of Marie's beautiful work.........

..............yellow feather and a beaded flower..............

Marie adds so much to the club - she is so very genorous sharing her bits and bobs with all in the class.

Thanks Marie

Crazy classroom

As usual, the last Tuesday of the month was a hive of activity - a full day of crazy.

June joined the class for the first time - but by the look of her work - she does not need me at all!!

A close up of her lovely cushion - she has made a runner as well, in the same style.

Marie is working on her white on white crazy quilt - she found a few more treasures to add to her stash - trust me on this - she does not need to add to it!!!!!

All the girls in the classes have their own way of storing and transporting their "bits" - Cheryl has to do TWO trips to her car to unload her "equipment".........

Some girls have all the ribbons rolled up neatly and some don't ...........

Sue had a whole desk to herself today - so she spread out!!!!

Debbie is on the home straight with her black bag which she will be donating to STEMM next year at their next fundraising evening.....

I was such a happy girl - Rosemary made me one of her gorgeous Mary Poppins bags - oh happy day!!!!

Looking forward to seeing all the girls in a months time. Hopefully I will have lots of their work to show you all.

Soft hands.........

I really struggle to keep my hands - especially in the winter months - soft and smooth. Working with fine threads really becomes an issue for me, with snagging being the biggest problem.

I think I have found a simple solution that works for me.

I combine 1/4cup of honey, 2 tablespoons liquid soap with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. I soak my hands in this mixture for a few minutes - 5 minutes if I can sit still for that long!! I then rub an "Udder cream" into my skin.

Once this is done I give my hands a good "buff" with a bath towel.

Please let me know if you have any other solutions for me!!

Feather stitch.... again!!

Because feather is my favourite stitch it is featured a lot in my work.
I used a silk thread and worked along the seam and added ribbon stitch leaves.

Nothing really very different here - except that the very fine feather contrasts well against the heavier little heart buttons.

Ribbon feather - embellished with tiny flower sequins and straight stitches.

Ruched ribbon roses are the base for the (pearl 5) feather and lazy daisy.

The pearl thread feather works well as the vine for the "grapes"...

Once again (pearl 5) thread - lazy daisy, extended french knots and beads....

Sorry this did photograph very well - because feather "turns corners" very well - it is ideal for hearts ......

Feather stitch..................

I my first "crazy" post.

Feather stitch is possibly my favourite stitch. It is so versatile, easy to embellish and creates movement on a crazy quilt.

I used a pearl (8) for the feather - the lazy daisy and extended french knots add colour.

Pearl 8 for the feather ( 5 to the left and right) - sequins off metallic thread - ruched ribbon roses and lazy daisy for the leaves.

A few feathers - ribbon, pearl (5) - embellished with ribbon stitch and seed beads.

Feather - varied threads - seed beads.

Beaded feather.

A fat little bumble bee flying towards feather leaves.

All in a row.

Meandering pearl (5) feather - single strand feather with french knots added for texture - beaded buttons.

This is a single feather with ribbon lazy daisy and bullion knots.

A cluster of feather using a variety of threads - organza, silk, pearl and rayon.
