Ann's beautiful crazy quilting

Oh my hat - I am so pleased that I went through my thousands of photos because I found Ann's gorgeous crazy quilting. Ann did come to my classes as a very proficient embroider.
He sense of colour, dimension and scale is great.

Feather stitch rouched ribbon garland, chain stitch, and bugle fans....................

Silk work, and beading. Some of her seam treatments are form my book, but as I have said so many time before, crazy quilting is totally unique to its maker.

Feather + chain + ribbon work = gorgeous!

Lovely clear lines.....................

Busy but strong

Sumptuous fuchsias........

Herringbone juxtaposed by ribbon work and strong beading......

Feather, fly, buttons and woven spiderweb stitch.

Crazy quilting by Sharon S

I have come to the end of very busy year teaching - and it's been so good to meet so many new friendly students in my classes. Sharon being one of them. She began quietly, BUT she soon showed her funny, slightly naughty side.
And while she entertained us she produced her very beautiful crazy.

Her ribbon work is gorgeous...................

Sharon's stitch fingerprint is delicate................

....................as is her colour palette..................

Her little 6' squares are packed with beautiful stitch combinations........

................ quite a few spiders...............

......................the prettiest button clusters...................

.............ribbon work, feather stitch, buttons and more.................

.....................closed blanket stitch, feather, herringbone and a bee or two..........

Sharon did use my book for many of her ideas - but they are stamped with her own creativity.

Up close - buttons, wheat ear, spider and sequins - sew, so pretty!!

Blanket stitch fans....................

Spider web, rouched ribbon and straight feather - gorgeous.

Thank you, Sharon for sharing your wonderful work.
See you next year (I hope).

Rhoda's crazy .........................

I teach a fair few classes each month so I get to see a lot of people's "stuff". However, I suffer from a serious dose of "stuff envy" when I go through Rhoda's stash.
She has a wonderful collection of vintage buttons and bits and bobs.

Rhoda used vintage ties as the fabric background to her crazy. And it is gorgeous!

Her work was in progress at the time of these photos..............

It's hard to believe that Rhoda has arthritis and sometimes her hands do not do as they are told.

Her work is so lovely ....................

Her vintage button stash comes in handy............

Triangle buttons, bow shaped buttons and butterflies..................strong herringbone seam treatment...........

Zigzag chain, feather stitch, silk ribbon roses and heart charm make for an interesting crazy block.

Cute little bunny button, silk ribbon embroidery, beaded daisy chain and feather stitch.
Lovely balance!

Bunny button in a sequin garden.

Bunny button in a button garden!!!!

I use masking tape to mark homework for my students - its handy!
Dragonfly and more pretty silk ribbon flowers.

Last but not least - a koala button in a gumtree.

Rhoda, its been a pleasure getting to know you. I cannot wait to see the fabrics for your next project in 2016. You mentioned vintage fabrics, doilies and lace and I began to salivate!

Thank you for sharing your work.

Rhonda's crazy quilting

Unfortunately, not many of the photos of the Rothwell group's crazy quilting are good enough to post. (I am hoping that Anita might send me some that are??????)
However, some of Rhonda's seemed to be ok.

chain stitch, silk ribbon embroidery and herringbone

As I stated, my photos are not great. The green in this photo appears way brighter than in the flesh. LOVE the beaded seam treatment.

Chevron, feather and ribbon work.

Bits of lace, beads and fern stitch

Lots of colonial knots, pinwheels and gorgeous roses

Spider, beaded chain and woven spider webs.

Rhonda's work was still in progress when these photos were taken but you can see that if the "bones" are good, the crazy will have good balance.

so, so, so pretty and delicate

Feather, wheat ear, couched ribbon.......................

What gorgeous roses to finish off with.

Thank you, Rhonda, for allowing me to share your work amongst all my classes.
I hope to see it completed.

Crazy quilting hexagons - by Marie

Marie just loves colour and all things repurposed. Most if not all her fabrics are purchased from op shops.
She has, over the years, collected the most amazing stash of vintage fabrics, buttons, lace etc.
Her sewing space is a treasure trove. Marie is exceptionally generous shares her "stuff"' with those in her class.

Her work is generous too....................... Marie has an expansive stitch fingerprint......

Her seam treatments are full and lively. Her colour palette is divine.

Marie has been coming to my crazy quilting classes for so many years now ......

........that I cannot imagine them without her.

Thank you Marie, for allowing me to share your gorgeous work.
